Healthy aging - who does not want that? For the older a person gets, the more precious his health appears to him. And what would one ultimately have from "deserved" retirement if one were sick and immobile. The Federal Association for Health e. V. has therefore developed 15 rules for healthy aging. Because it is never too late to change your own lifestyle and to start with the "getting healthy".

1st Rule: Prepare for your age!

Find out in good time how to shape your life as you age. Prepare mentally for changes in your life (for example, leaving the profession). Ask yourself what opportunities and requirements these changes are and how you can use them or how you can respond to them.

Think of your home as you prepare for your age. The removal of obstacles, the installation of tools or the move to another apartment are important for the preservation of your independence. Ask your doctor or use the local housing consultation to get suggestions for meaningful changes in your home. This consultation will also provide you with information about financial support in making such changes.

2nd Rule: Live healthily in all ages!

So be sure to exercise and eat well, avoid nicotine and other addictive substances, be responsible with alcohol and medication, and avoid long-lasting physical and mental overloads.

3rd rule: Take precautionary measures!

Thus, threatening diseases can be detected early and treatment can be initiated in good time. Take the initiative yourself and talk with your doctor about what you can do to maintain your health and how you can contribute to a healthy aging.

4th Rule: It is never too late to change your own lifestyle positively!

One can start at any age to lead a health-conscious and physically, mentally and socially active life. By positively changing your lifestyle, you can act on the risk factors that have already occurred - such as metabolic disorders, high blood pressure and obesity - and reduce their harmful effects on your age.

Rule 5: Be physically, mentally and socially active in all ages!

Look for tasks that appeal and challenge you. Please note that your behavior at an early age will make a decisive contribution to achieving a high age of healthy, active and self-reliant people.

6. Rule: Use free time to learn new things!

Continue physical, mental and social activities that you have developed in previous years, even in old age. Ask yourself how much you want to build on it in your old age. Use the free time in your old age to learn new things. You can also train memory and thinking as you age. Be aware of developments in your environment (for example in the field of technology, the media, traffic) and ask yourself how you can use these developments for yourself.

Rule 7: Stay open to positive events and new experiences even in old age!

Keep the ability to enjoy beautiful things in everyday life. Keep in mind that you feel healthier with an active lifestyle and a positive attitude to life. If you have found a personally appealing task, if you can look forward to beautiful things in everyday life and if you do not resign in stressful situations, then your health wellbeing is rather preserved.

8. Rule: Understand Age as a Chance!

Understand age as a life stage in which you can evolve. You can expand your skills and interests, you can find new insights and a more mature way of dealing with the demands of life. Note that you can also evolve in dealing with burdens and conflicts.

Rule 9: Maintain contacts even in old age!

Do not limit yourself to family, but also think of neighbors, friends and acquaintances. Keep in mind that the contact with younger people also offers opportunities for mutual stimulation and enrichment.

10. Rule: Give the Tenderness a Chance!

A partnership in which both partners enjoy tenderness, physical closeness and sexuality contributes to satisfaction and physical well-being. Do not be alarmed by those people who think that age and tenderness or age and sexuality do not match.

11. Rule: Dare something to your body!

Do sports and exercise sufficiently without being overwhelmed. You get your physical performance. They help to keep your support and movement system elastic and strong. You feel your body in a pleasant way. Talk to your doctor about what type of physical training is right for you.

12. Rule: Health is not a matter of age!

Therefore, ask yourself again and again what you can do to maintain your health, self-reliance and self-reliance in old age. Please note: For reasons of age alone, we do not forfeit our health as well as the ability to live autonomously and self-reliantly.

Rule # 13: Do not Just Take Diseases!

If you have any medical conditions, contact your doctor. Even in the case of a chronic illness, a regular visit to the doctor's office is necessary. Keep in mind that you can help with loss of vision and hearing. Do not just take these too. Rather talk to your doctor about existing aids and use them when they are prescribed.

If you are impaired by illnesses in your self-employment, rehabilitation often proves to be useful and necessary. Talk to your doctor about possible rehabilitation successes in your particular case. Remember that rehabilitation can only be successful if you do everything you can to regain your independence.

14. Rule: Look for good help and care!

If you are in need of help or in need of care, you are looking for opportunities for good help and care. Make sure that the help or care does not mean that you are independent and self-reliant, but that you maintain and promote them. If you are looked after by your relatives, please be careful that they are not overwhelmed and receive sufficient support.

15th Rule: Have the courage to be self-employed!

In stressful situations, ask yourself how best to cope with this stress, what would be good for you, what people you want to be with, how they can help you, and when that help is too much for you. If you need help, dare to ask for this help. But you also have the courage to refuse help, if you see yourself too restricted in your independence.
