Poison Center


In case of poisoning or suspected poisoning, you will find emergency call centers with poison alarm in Germany, the first aid measures and important information in emergencies.

First aid for poisoning

  • keep Calm and do not take hasty action
  • No salt water, no milk give, no vomiting trigger
  • at severe symptoms such as unconsciousness and shortness of breath ABC measures apply:
    • Clear airways (airway)
    • Breathing
    • Heart massage (circulation)
  • emergency doctor inform (phone numbers 112 or 19222)
  • Call at one Poison Information Center
  • Give some sips to drink (water, tea or juice)
  • After eye or skin contact rinse affected area with water
  • After inhalation of toxic gases, add fresh air

Important information in case of emergency

  • who (Age and weight of the person concerned)
  • What (more accurate Name of the toxin, best read from the pack)
  • When (more accurate Administration time)
  • As was it taken? (drunk, eaten, inhaled, by skin contact)
  • How much was ingested? (exact quantity specification or maximum possible amount)
  • Where did it happen?
  • What has been done so far?
  • How is the person? (Vomiting, fatigue, pain)
  • How is the caller reachable? (Call-back number)
